We warmly invite you to the vernissage of Re-membering, a group exhibition curated by MAAPS (Mapping Asian Art Practices in Sweden) at Detroit Stockholm.

Nanna Li, Jesper Bror Palmqvist, Åsa Polfjärd, and Ting Wang each work with identity, memory, and different histories we carry. Their works start from personal experience and open onto wider social histories, asking how memories and cultural references shape who we are, and how we relate to others.

To re-member is to look back, but also to put back together and make space to meet again. In this exhibition, memories, references, and inherited stories are allowed to find new connections.

Participating Artists

  • Nanna Li is an artist working across illustration, comics, and visual communication. Her recent project Hej vännen explores embodiment, self-image, and belonging through fragments of text, image, and storytelling.
  • Jesper Bror Palmqvist is an artist whose practice explores how identity is shaped by social structures, with a particular interest in queer and indefinable identities. Working across painting, film, installation, and sculpture, he draws on personal experience, everyday objects, and the histories embedded in materials.
  • Åsa Polfjärd is a Swedish-Korean interdisciplinary visual artist whose practice explores belonging and othering. In this exhibition she examines human rights violations in transnational adoptions through art installations and text.
  • Ting Wang is a Chinese-Swedish multidisciplinary artist working primarily with textiles. Through interactive installations combining sound, sculpture, film, and mechanical structures, she explores displacement, cultural heritage, and how traditional practices find meaning in new contexts.

Accessibility

Detroit Stockholm is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. The entrance has six steep steps without a handrail leading up to the first gallery space. The restroom is a small single-person toilet with a low threshold. To reach the downstairs gallery, there are eight steps with a handrail, followed by a door with a threshold and one additional step without a handrail. We are happy to assist during your visit—please contact us in advance if you would like support.
